Palma del Río is known through Spain for its theatrical fair. For a week streets of Palma are turned into improvised stages, where the best companies of Andalusia and some that are invented from other communities show their latest productions, although most are staged in the Casa de la Juventud youth centre, La casa de la Cultura or in the Teatro Coliseo.
If you don’t want to miss a day of the festival put up at the San Francisco Hostel a Franciscan monastery from the fifteenth century with patios , orchards and balconies or in the Hotel Castillo whose balconies look onto bustling Pio XII Avenue, where theatre takes over the street.
Between shows stroll through its historic city centre with its walled Almohad enclosure separating it from the zone where you will come upon Caballerizas Reales, the site of the National museum and the Tourism Office, or the beautiful parish church of la Asunción, the Santa Clara Convent, the Portocarrero Palace or the impressive Mudejar cloister of the San Sebastian Hospital.
