During the sixteenth century Purchena village spread out at the foot of the Filabres mountain range, became the flagship for coexistence between different cultural groups by resurrecting the Moorish games of aben Humeya, which came to attract the interest of the International Olympic Committee which called it the missing link in the chain between the ancient Olympics and the modern world.

For five days this town faithfully recreates the atmosphere and spirit of 1569 and in the streets you can witness wrestling between brave young men, brick lifting, the triple jump, wrestling, archery, singing, use of the presentation of the games, a delectable cooking competition, musical acts with groups from Andalusia and North Africa and a marvellous medieval market where you can find the most varied and beautiful handicrafts.
