Su extensi\u00f3n de terreno es de 158km2 y una altitud de 586m sobre el nivel del mar. Form\u00f3 durante la dominaci\u00f3n romana la Colonia Augusta Gemina, junto con la ciudad de Martos. Toma mayor relevancia durante la invasi\u00f3n goda, siendo muestra de ello el tesoro encontrado casualmente en 1931. Se encontraron cruces, broches y letras de oro pertenecientes a coronas. En 1229 Fernando III la conquista y pasa a pertenecer junto a Martos a la Orden de Calatrava, recibiendo el nombre de Torre Ximeno. En 1911 recibe el t\u00edtulo de ciudad por privilegio de Alfonso XIII. En la actualidad su poblaci\u00f3n asciende a 13820 habitantes y se encuentra a una distancia de 17 km de jaen capital."}
