Municipio situado al sur de la provincia de Malaga a 120 km, cuenta con 292 habitantes. Las primeras noticias que se tienen sobre la ocupación de estas tierras, pertenecen a la época árabe, que le dieron su nombre Farrajan, que significa lugar ameno, alegre, deleitoso. Estuvieron asentadas en él diversas tribus de origen magrebí que coexistieron pacíficamente con minorías judías y cristianas procedentes de los prisioneros hechos en campañas bélicas. Vivían en pequeñas alquerías como Albalaxtear, Chucar, Cenajen y Castillejo. Tras la conquista de Ronda, las alquerías son abandonadas, agrupándose sus habitantes en Faraján que se constituye como Realengo perteneciente a Ronda.
