This course has been chosen as the venue of the 1997 Ryder cup and various fixtures in Volvo Masters Series. like many others on the Costa del Sol, this magnificent course was designed with the collaboration of Robert Trent Jones, although the 17th bears the unmistakable stamp of Severiano Ballesteros, responsible for remodelling it.

Valderrama's fairways have been thought out with care and, apart from the elevated greens, there are also nearly a hundred bunkers throughout the course.

Its difficulty can test the nerves of the calmest of players. apart from being the best known, the 489 metre par-five 4th hole is especially beautiful with a waterfall nest to its At the 8th, a par-four, good aim is needed so as to avoid the tees near the green, which is also protected by an enormous bunker.

A par-five, the 17th is a serious test for even the best players, while the 2nd is one of the most difficult holes as one must play towards the left so as to be on line with the green.

HOW TO GET THERE: From both Marbella or Algeciras turn off at Km 133 and take the exit marked Valderrama-Guadiaro-Castellar.
